My self and all the other guys in the office used to play.

FWIW I really enjoyed Guild Wars, although, it did get a little annoying when they started nerfing things left right and centre, but they have been promising GW2 for about 3 years with very little sign of any progress so I wouldn't hold your breath

IIRC @TheLibrarian got a game time of about 9 months on GW lol

Well for the past 3 years they've moved away from giving anything about dates simply saying "it's ready when it's ready" now that they've finally said "later this year with a beta soon" I'm pretty hopeful :D I think, going by what I've ready around t'nternet august/september looks like a possible release time but i guess we'll have to wait and see :)

Any of you play or used to play guild wars?

I used to.

I got annoyed with it, or more like annoyed with the players.

I was constantly soloing the game becase no-one seemed to comprehend that someone had only just started playing it [and didn't spend £stupid on the skill packs] and on the rare occasion I got someone to help with the big parts of the main campaign [the bits with cutscenes] the ALWAYS tried to skip it and disconnected when I wanted to watch it.

Played it back when it came out with a friend, then a couple of years later with some Uni housemates - which was annoying, as my copy was two years out of date, and every time we went into a new area I'd have to wait half an hour for 600mb of updates to download while they carried on playing.

First time through my mate and I spent an entire evening running for the next town so we didn't have to do that stupid capture-the-flag style mission... second time I got to it (soloing by that point) it was just bloody impossible without a team, and knickers to grouping with the tits who played by that point.

I did enjoy it though, and GW2 looks so very clever and pretty...

if you make a guild wars shortcut and put -image on the end of the path and leave it going for a few hours it'll download all areas of the game in one go so you don't have to download each area as you get to it :)

These days it's a very solo focused game i must admit, i loved it back in the day when it was with mates though. I've got some pretty awesome heroes builds now too, can run through frostmaws burrow's with relatively few issues (master difficulty quest) :D

I stopped playing a while back....having 100% exploring on all maps as well as all elite spells for every class....basically I was a mesmer/elemental with fast casting maxed, magic stealing maxed and whichever element I felt necessary maxed. Pretty devastating

Yes and I still do occasionally. I now am just focusing on getting 50/50 from hall of monuments so I spend most of my time getting titles.

I used to play it alot with my uni housemates and played quite a bit of PvP back when Heroes Ascent was Tomb of Primevil kings (Remember FoC Spike anyone? :p).

Great game and I will be looking forward to GW2 although knowing Arenanet this year will mean December. I do have to wonder that they will have to release the last of the Canthan follow on quests and Nightfall storyline pretty soon.

This is probably going to sound REALLY cheaky... but could anyone [of lots of people] help me get HoM rewards for GW2?

I haven't even finished the story.

Is it even possible to get help? I've been looking at the requirements... I'm guessing it's going to cost more money than I can farm [without bots or going maaaad]

Story will never be finished, the amount of quests they add in the update...

Prophecies, Factions and Eye of the North are finished IIRC.

Nightfall only has a little bit more left, then that's done too.

Also, if anybody is pre-searing ascalon, I have a charactor that I want to get to lvl 20, perhaps we can work together?

Depending on when you're on... I may be able to help.

I wanted to make a new character anyway. [i'm an alt'o'holic.]

It's supposed to be a lot easier now anyway, they added in some nice dailies for decent exp. [iIRC, I haven't played in a while.]

Do you reckon this is worth playing before GW2 comes out? Bearing in mind I will probably be making a new Charr when it's released. :)

If you can meet the requirements for "Hall of Monuments" requirements, then yes. Bonus starting items are always helpful.

Also, it's a good game. [but talking about it is making me want to play WoW again...]

I enjoy the game after 5 years! Best to buy ALL 4 game packs as the characters can be used in all 4 sets. Start in prophecies to get a feel for the game, then try to get to level 20 before going post-searing, that way you will be pretty much safe until you reach Lions Arch, as usually people hit around lvl 15 there. From Lions Arch you can go to Cantha and Elona. Highly enjoyable game if done properly :)
