X-13 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 the pupil-specific data teachers store on their laptops Not just the laptops... they also want external HDDs if they're having problems.

[the furthest back you can go is "laptopsforteachers.co.uk/uploads/"] @davepetty I would have a word with your webadmin. IIRC, it's pretty easy to fix this. featured_spectre Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I just called a few of the schools on your testimonials page, funny how they didn't have much to say in your favour. Coopers Technology College - Matt Butler, left 4 years ago, and the NM in charge now (who was deputy NM then) said not worth dealing with you, whilst prompt on collection of equipment, receiving the funds took a while. Sanders Draper School - Sheila Cates, left the school 2 years ago, current NM declined to comment on the service, but when checking the funds received, he believes the school was offered a below standard price and that Sheila was effectively fleeced. Christ the King College - Declined to comment Archers Court Maths and Computing (Now Dover Christchurch Academy) - Declined to comment Frogmore Infant School - Declined to comment Doesn't say much about your level of service and prices offered!
X-13 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Doesn't say much about your level of service and prices offered! We're not talking about that anymore. The topic is now the funny pictures they have on their server. [srs]I said to get on to the schools they mentioned. See... I know what I'm talking about, sometimes.[/srs] Edited June 5, 2013 by X-13
davepetty Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 That is nonsense Matt Butler and Shelia were fine with the prices, what I bought amounted to scrap laptops that was only any good for spares. These schools would have had to pay to have them removed or at best just thrown then in to landfill. At least they received some money to got back into schools and I kept the parts out of land fill That must be a good thing surely David
featured_spectre Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 They were respectful for how quick you got the equipment off the school property (in fact that was a big positive for the schools), and bare in mind, I didn't speak directly to Matt nor Sheila, just their replacements (one of which had no specific dealings with you as he wasn't at the school at the time, but checked what was offered for what equipment). Whilst I agree giving money back to the schools is a good thing, and keeping the stuff out of the landfills is a good thing also, it seems the new people were not so impressed with prices offered.
davepetty Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 With all due respect as they were not there they did not see the condition of the items, also Matt and sheila was pleased to get rid of it as it was clogging up space in there small offices David

The fact that we can view this is sloppy on the part of the host.
featured_spectre Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I agree with you in getting rid of stuff clogging up space and how much it helps (lord knows my desk is cluttered right now) but I am going based on testimonials from schools that used your services over 2 years ago. You need to update it with more recent customers.
featured_spectre Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Do bare in mind, I am not seeking to have a dig at your company, nor yourself, but it is the fact that it hasn't been updated in over 2 years on the testimonials, and there are people now declining to comment, so get some fresh customers up, I'll happily ring them and see if they corroborate what they say on the site. If they do, I'll post to that effect (I check testimonials before dealing with anyone, various edugeek suppliers went through hell to get my custom!)
davepetty Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Thanks nephilim I will try and get them updated, but I know what I was like when I was a network manager I never had a bit of spare time and to write a testimonial for soneone would have been at the bottom of my list. I think I may have had a positive response from you guys at last, I will untie the rope from my tree and remove my head from the noose. David
featured_spectre Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 As soon as you have some new testimonials up. PM me the names, school names (and website if possible) and numbers for the people, and I will ring and let the edugeek community know my findings. (PS, you got off lightly, compared to when I did my wireless review, it ruined the rep of some companies on here)
the_one_that_cant Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 David Read through this thread and take note of what various people have said, thus improving the customer experience. Don't forget, we are Techs and some are more inclined to nit-pick problems etc. Not to bash you, but to improve. Once the Techs are happy, then dish out to the customers, and then they should benefit from a better experience, and your status should grow. :-)
davepetty Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Hey seriously many thanks for this, I will get onto them straight away. if you go down to BET next year I will get you a couple of pints in. The fact that we can view this is sloppy on the part of the host. I've found a few sites on my travels that have the same thing... E.G: I just broke the css on the smoothwall site by using a usually non-accessable URL. [CTRL+F5 fixed it.]

On topic: Bear in mind this is a necro post from Jan 2012 and it is coming across as a bit of a witch hunt against the company! @davepetty is already saying he is looking for feedback from members to improve his services which I think is a good sign. Personally I'd say this is a case of legit business making a few errors that could be pointed out and cleaned up.

Personally I'd say this is a case of legit business making a few errors that could be pointed out and cleaned up. Indeed, although as I pointed out, it sounds similar to a scam that did the rounds a while ago about laptops for Africa or something (I forget the details) so the key is in offering something of limited risk. The testimonials thing @nephilim posted is illuminating but smacks of third hand information. As the original people aren't there to comment any information from the site is automatically several times removed from reality. New testimonials should help that defo. It helps that you put in an appearance in this thread too as it shows people that there is a real individual behind the site that is willing to put their head above the parapet - scammers wouldn't do that now would they? 1
davepetty Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Many thanks to everyone on here. I love edu geek I have been using it for years (not enough recently though) I will take any criticism positively and try to improve, I am a normal bloke trying to make a living by been honest and giving something back to schools as well as (hopefully) making some money and employing young local people. But please any advice would be great. I really do appreciate it. Many thanks David David Read through this thread and take note of what various people have said, thus improving the customer experience. tech_guy Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Hi Dave, out of interest do you refurb and sell on or just break down and sell the parts for spares?
