Has anyone used Arch Linux before?

 

Is it worth losing the familiarity of Fedora for the lower memory footprint of Arch or should I just stick with Fedora.

I'm only thinking of using it as a very basic desktop with a web browser (possibly as a kiosk), just for a bit of fun whern the RasPi comes out later this month.

True Arch doesn't come with a default desktop - you install if from command line.

 

If you're not keen on re-inventing the wheel, you might want to look at ArchBang, a distro of Arch but with a configured desktop (the lightweight OpenBox), ready to go.

It's by far the easiest way into Arch.

 

I've run it virtually (just out of curiosity), and it's pretty neat.

would it be better waiting to see what's released when the RasPi comes out and having a play with that before jumping distro?

 

all the RasPi demos with a desktop gui seem to be running LXDE btw

I've used ArchBang. I like Arch, but I found it very hard to install without an ethernet connection!
