Printer RAM upgrading

Hello guys,

 

Now I am going to be replacing our currently dying IT suite printer which is a Dell 3110cn possibly to a Dell 3130cn or to a Ricoh SP C430DN in the near future.

 

My question is would I be able to take out the RAM from our current printer and to install it in the which ever printer we are to purchase? Do printers have ram slots like PCs and Laptops? for RAM upgrades?

 

And do all manufacturers printers all use one specific type of RAM?

 

I will find out the answer when i'm in work but just too un-patient

You need to check the specs or read the manual. It'll tell you what type of memory is required. Typically it's some form of laptop memory, but sometimes it's printer specific.

I've checked online and its DDR2 RAM

It's very rare for them to use specific memory these days. Before buying, ransack a few laptops for the RAM and test varying speeds. Then you can happily buy a 1gb stick of generic stuff for a fiver instead of forking out nearly £100 because it has HP/Ricoh/Epson adorning the side.

Not sure about the Ricoh printer (it's almost impossible to find any specs for the RAM), but the Dell 3130CN will work with DDR2 laptop RAM.

 

Dell 3110CN (Standard: 128MB / Maximum: 1,152MB)

Supports 667MHz 200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMMs (512MB or 1GB)

 

Dell 3130CN (Standard: 256MB / Maximum: 1,280MB)

Supports 533MHz or 667MHz 200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMMs (512MB or 1GB)

 

Ricoh Aficio SP C430DN (Standard: 384MB / Maximum: 768MB)

??? (256MB or 512MB)

 

I could be wrong, but it looks like the Ricoh takes 168-pin 133MHz SDRAM DIMMs which are quite expensive.

Thanks for the link Arthur was looking for this info.

I think Ricoh hides RAM specification for it's printers.

 

This printer supports an SDRAM then?

Not at all - they'll be less rare if you dont search for DDR (which they're not)

 

I keep finding stuff like that buried underneath my desk at home and binning it.

If you look closely at the pictures in the manual, the Ricoh RAM has two notches in the same locations that SDRAM has them. However, that doesn't necessarily mean standard PC133 SDRAM would work.

Hi again guys,

 

Just a quick word, we went for the x2 Ricoh printers.

Any advice?, regarding on setting up a network printer much appreciated as this will be my first time installing the two printers this Friday....

Install them onto your print server using only the supplied .inf drivers - do not, unless you absolutely have to, install the full package (via the setup.exe's etc).

Use the printer's configuration menu (on the printer itself) to set them a static IP address then you can use a browser to make more fiddly changes therein (like duplex settings, default quality etc, locking down the printer front panel if that is an option on those)

Well I've opend up the printer today and it was crushed some how.

 

The Cardboard box was fine, just the printer itself was a complete wreckage. Someone must of dropped it thus being broken in to pieces and then must of decided to put it inside the carboard box (packaged) and then went on to the pallet! This printer came from Netherlands factory by the way. Its not a courier fault but factory faulty, something dodgey has been happening at the other end (Rotherdam)

Spoken to Ricoh and they won't be sending out a new printer until they collect and recieve the currently wrecked printer!

 

which is shame because I was trusting a well respected brand in printing..
