Deploying a Desktop Gadget to 500 machines ?

2008 R2, Windows 7 desktops (AD etc)

 

How can I deploy a desktop gadget, to 500 machines ? Its a in house tool to display student information etc. that is on the desktop at all times for staff/students to see

What format is the tool in? Is it something you could add into an image for the machine and deploy that way?

Not sure yet tbh, I have just being told that they are devoping a desktop gadget that needs to be ran on specific desktops.

I would prefer not to do it via the image, incase that they change it.

Don't we all know that feeling .. best bet is to take a look at that link or to ask them (as they're developing it) to look at making it easy to deploy and control via GPO (so a nice MSI to push it out to machines in the first place with a custom GPO to turn it on/off for the different users).

 

The other option you have (depending on what information you want to put out) is using BGInfo ..
