Rawns Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Just curious as if there would be any benefits from installing Windows Server 2008 R2 as my Media Centre O/S rather then Windows 7 Home Premium? I'm not sure if Server 2008 R2 utilises the hardware better for that little bit more performance?
sted Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 not really dnla wont work (or at least i cant get it to) on 08r2 media centre isnt an option and least i read nobody had added it so tv cards wont work. The reason on the same hardware 08r2 is faster is that stuff is turned off/not there by converting it unless you need say hyper v you arnt really gaining much imo

It's a nasty little piece of software compared to XBMC or Boxee! I use (and will never stop using) XBMC as it's 100% awesome. I was purely curious as if replacing the current Win 7 O/S with 2008 R2 would provide any benefits?

edutech4schools Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 XBMC on windows is very good. A few years back it had all sorts of issues but v10... is very stable. if your using it with a tv get a remote control with a trackball or a smartphone to control the interface. 1
Rawns Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 Like @edutech4schools says, it works nicely on Windows. I'm actually using XBMC 11 Beta 1 and it's great. Also got the official XBMC Android remote and it's awesome!

Greenbeast Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 It's amazing how quickly something like XBMC on windows becomes insinuated into your life, i've got used to, and the misses too, being able to just turn on the media pc and use the logitech harmony to browse hundreds of movies and tv episodes.
