Policy settings discrepancy

Any help on this issue would be greatly received as its puzzling the heck (substitute your own profanity here) out of me.

 

Below is a screen shot of a machine that has been getting no internet for students and that obvious when looking at the proxy settings for the machine as they are non-existent. However if I run RSOP.msc I get the setting on the right that are supposed to have been applied. I think doesn't quite sum it up. I've check rsop from the server as well and it reports the same so it's not a machine policy messing it up and group policy loopback is merging settings so if I'm reading the setting right user preferences should take precedence. (correct me if I'm wrong on that but either way proxy settings per machine is not on so should not make a difference anyway)

The policy looks disabled - you have an exclamation mark next on the image gp page.

The exclamation mark is because it can't display the computer settings for that user but well spotted I hadn't noticed before.

It can't display them because they are disabled. You aren't pointing the gpo at a computer ou with loop back processing? in which case you would need the computer settings enabled.

Right I'v gone back to my GPOs and reset the security on each one to the default authenticated users and it seems to work. Odd how it just started to go funny though when it had been happy with different security groups before.

Have the groups been changed from Security groups to distribution groups in AD?

No but my security setup was a bit convoluted so I'm now looking at simplifying by using OU's instead. Might have been easier to do this in the first place
