Bursar cant open any excel files from home folder.

Our Bursar cant open any excel files from her home folder which is on a 2003 server. We have recently updated her computer to Win7 64bit. Her security setting on the server look the same as everyone else's.

 

When she tries to open an excel file she just gets the spinning mouse pointer for a few mins and it then says that it cant open the file.

 

She can copy the file to her desktop and it works fine.

 

Any ideas or tests I can do to work out what's going on.

Update: She can open excel docs from other network locations just not her home folder.

I am back at the school later. I might create a new home folder and see how that goes.

 

Any other ideas?

What is the exact error message when she can't open the file?

No real message displays. simply says the file can't be opened.

Ok just got onsite and it turns out is not all excel files. The error is only with excel files that use macros.

 

I also created a new home folder and still get the issue.

 

Update: She can open excel docs from other network locations just not her home folder.

I would ignore the quote above as this file did not have macros.

 

So she cant open any excel documents from any network drives but if she copies them to her local machine they are fine.

Ho Ho Ho fixed it.

 

I had to un-install Microsoft File Validation using add / remove programs.
