[sims] FMS- Problem printing cheques

Hi

Has anyone ever come across this sort of problem before?

 

When a user selects Print in order to print off a cheque run or a cheque run report the "Save as" dialogue pops up instead of printing.

This has meant that we have had to destroy a number of pre printed cheques as the same print run can't be reprinted.

When I was asked to look at it I "saved" the .xps file that was created to the desktop, but when opening it I can only get it to open via Internet Explorer, this was fine for the report, but for the individual cheques it wasn't so good as the spacing was incorrect and the payee details were printed over existing text and could not be read.

 

Any idea as to what could be causing the "Save as" to come up or failing that how to get FMS to open the .xps unstead of IE.

No printer or default printer is the built in office one. Double check to see where your other programs print. also sometimes things go funny, if the system can't handle the file type, e.g. xml, so make sure you have office installed. the readers at least.

i think it was the microsoft xps document writer i was thinking of. and i think it comes with windows, or maybe office.

I think it's more to do with SIMS/FMS than Office. The correct printer is shown (It is the default one) other programs print to it without problems.

The problem is; when "print" is pressed in FMS a "save as" dialogue comes up instead, this shouldn't happen.

Try to remove the XPS printer and have only the default installed. FMS is pretty rubbish with printers, I remember not too long ago that it wouldn't even start if a printer wasn't installed!

it doesn't pick up and remember the printer that was available when it was installed does it. that would suck.

Pease log a case if you haven't done so already. We looked into a few printing issues such as not picking up default printer and fixed them.

 

I would strongly recommend using BACS rather than cheques; it will save a secondary ~£1000/year not to mention time saved in people signing cheques.

Many thanks Everyone, uninstalled and then reinstalled the default printer and it works fine again.

 

(took 15 minutes for HP to uninstall itself, so much bloat...)
