printer default for users

Hi,

Problem i have at the moment is this:

We have Server 2008 r2 ,running hyper-V, server 2003 is installed and printers are installed on server 2003, printers are setup by OU ,how would i set a default printer for each OU?

Any idea's please

I would seriously look at client side preferences.

failing this you could use a VBS to map printers by group membership

Thanks for the info, with client side preferences how can i achieve this? no printers are installed on server 2008, all on 2003. 99% of client machines are windows 7

Can anyone point me to some info, maybe someone has the same setup?

Do your have Server 2008 (or R2) as a DC? If so, Group Poicy preferences are the way to go. Works like a charm here.

Definatly use Group Policy preferences then. If you have XP clients make sure that you have client side extensions installed. I just created a GPO with a list of all the printers in the user preferences and with item leve targeting.

GP Preferences: Add a new printer, set as default - Group Policy Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs
