TechSupp Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Basic one really...I hope. Just dialed in to school and I want to log on to a PC but dont know which one is one. Ho can I find out quickly which PC is on so I can log in to it. I can log in to the server thats no problem, just need to log on to a student PC to test something out while at home.
jamesfed Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Guess you could have a look on your DHCP server - any recently updated addresses there could give you at least a starting point.
SYNACK Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 If your on 2003/XP you can just type "net view" into a command prompt and it will give you a list from the netbios cache. You can do the same if you have network discovery switched on on all of the servers and workstations with later versions of Windows 2008/Vista + 1

Cant be relied upon to be unreliable in turning them off for once! Ah well it'll have to wait till Monday then. Thnaks for the replies anyway.

Thnaks for the replies anyway. @TechSupp - Use wake on lan, you have the MAC addresses in the DHCP tables, use something like Poweroff http://users.telenet.be/jbosman/poweroff/poweroff.htm and spew some wakup commands to the MAC addresses. If you have any hp's floating about then try these as WOL is usually turned on by default. Edited October 28, 2011 by SYNACK
