bicky Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) Currently we have a shared folder which has several departmental sub-folders where videos, audio and photos are saved and accessed by staff only. Managing these media not easy. What do you guys use it in your school? Is there some sort of software. Edited October 21, 2011 by bicky
nLinked Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Bump. Managing ever-changing permissions on folders for large media files is a pain and inefficient. A NAS would need very high bandwidth for editing. Home drives are mapped so will be too slow, and have small quotas. Yet we need to prevent other students accessing each other's media files. Any suggestions?
unixman_again Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 For videos we use Helix Media Server You can set permissions are granular as you like. For images I've used Coppermine Photo Gallery and Gallery where again you can get very granular with perms. We used to use WordPress for images, (and the images loaded are still accessible), but now we use a mix of Moodle and anarchy (ie shared folders). I hope to change this one day to a software solution.
