The first launch of Galileo aboard Soyuz is at about 11:30am today. Watch the launch live at Arianespace - VideoCorner > Livestream video coverage All previous Soyuz launches have been from Baikonur and Plesetsk; this is the first one from French Guiana at the new launch complex. Sadly the weather in Kourou is cloudy, so the view may not be the best. I watch the launch webcasts regularly and they are usually very well presented.

Sadly, it appears to have been postponed, both according to the video feed and the Arianespace.com website - but I can't find a reason as to why, due to numerous 'Service unavailable' errors on the website..!

October 20, 2011

Following an anomaly detected during fueling of the Soyuz launcher’s third stage, the final countdown has been interrupted.

The Soyuz and its two Galileo satellites, along with the launch facility have been placed in a safe mode.

A new launch date will be announced later today.

Shame about the complete waste of money on a vanity project, too. That money could've been spent getting our ass to Mars.

Why is it a waste of money? Navigation systems are tied into a massive amount of our every day systems. From the systems that organise deliveries, to the guidance systems on planes and ships. The time systems are used for our banking systems and more.

Not to mention the fact this new system will contain a proper SAR system which can locate people needing help within a meter.

Not even slightly a waste of money IMO.

Tbh id rather have a huge telescope array something with a km or more baseline. Think what could be done with that
