Redirected Startmenu - Missing random folders?? Cached copy??

Hi,

 

We have roaming profiles and a redirected startmenu, nice and simple. \\server\staffstartmenus\startmenu

Works perfectly for XP. If you make a change to the start menu share it will automatically change the menu on the PC.

 

With Windows 7 we seem to be having very strange problems?

 

Firstly sometimes when I add a link to the share it doesnt appear on the windows 7 PCs?

Or even worse, some staff report that they have startmneus with plenty of folders missing?

 

This can be rectified by deleting their local and server profile. It seems to be saving a cached copy in their profile?

 

Can anyone please help?

Just disabled the caching on the share, thanks for this, will let you know how we get on

 

Just checked this logs, the error that that member got when she logged in was:

"Folder redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect."

Googling this apparently this is by design and the user should log off and back on. This doesnt work and the problem also follows them around to all their windows 7 PCs...

This ended up actually being a Group Policy error. We set "Start Menu" to be excluded from roaming profiles. but so some staff that logged in to certain machines had the start menu copied back to their server profile, with a copy now in there server profile they got this old start menu where ever they logged in, instead of the correct one.

Glad you got it sorted. I would still recommend you disable caching on your redirect share.

 

I would also recommend you use the FQDN on your redirect share, as 2008 R2 does favour this. It works absolutely fine with both XP and 7 clients.
