10% is fine as a tip at that level! I have been known to leave just one penny for particularly "special" service.

 

Personally, I'd much rather it was included in the price, and workers were paid a proper wage.

I thought it was considered low in the states. Normally elsewhere i'd go for 10%, if it was worthy service, but in the US it's almost obligatory.

I like the 1 penny tip, we do that here sometimes.

Service charge is always added to the bills here from 15-20%, but it never goes to the staff.

I leave extra cash tip, and ask to make sure it will go to the staff. Even in the UK a few times i've been told by the staff they don't get it, especially if it's on card, or they have to share it, have tax taken off and an 'admin' fee subtracted, which is ridiculous.

Vik its the same here. I went to pizza hut with the Mrs a few weeks ago, asked about tipping the waitress as she was fantastic (she even cheered up my grumpy 2 year old daughter and we had a fantastic time thanks to her) but she said unless we give it too her after the bill has been paid, they dont get it, the company gets it. So we tipped her £5 on a £30 bill because of everything she did

Back in my student days I waitressed at a couple of big hotels. Tips were always cash then, but the policy at both hotels was that all tips went in a bucket and were divided between all the kitchen and waiting staff at the end of service.
