asus eeepc 701 4g ubuntu os install problem

I thought i had succesfully installed ubuntu 10.4 netbook remix.

 

It fully completed and when i point the mouse over the desktop icons,they highlight,but when i double click or hit return, to action them .nothing happens,

 

Can anyone tell my why this has happened as the desktop looks normal?

Are you sure? If anything is stored on the secondary solid state storage partition then that can be stunningly slow. If it's any help, I've got to finish off sorting out a customised Debian install on our EeePCs that boots, connects to the wireless network (via the command-line tool, so nothing for anyone to fiddle with) and then loads up Firefox in kiosk mode so we have netbooks that are simple quick-booting web browsing machines. I'll try and post notes or a step-by-step guide on what I did.
