You can view files, delete and rename files and upload - anything more than that can be done from within school. Possibly you're asking more of it than that.

It's about giving ideas for future versions, not stating what it is currently capable of. Just because it happens to load on mobile devices does not mean that there is inbuilt support for them. Have you tried to upload a file from an iPad using basic view? No support for Silverlight = error messages that confuse users and no access to the file system makes it all but impossible to upload a file from an iPad. Sure I can open the file in Dropbox etc but this is a workaround. Perhaps build in browser detection and load the best view possible rather than allowing the user to choose. Perhaps a HAP app.

I never said you're asking too much of the "feature request" forum, what I said was that you are asking more of the SOFTWARE than we do if Basic View isn't suitable for you. That said, I haven't tried using it much from an iPad as yet (my iPad guinea pig has been off school recently). I'm not sure how many people would spend long working from an iPad though - the people I know with them use them for browsing, emailing, etc but head to a PC/Mac if they want to type anything very long.

Also the 'myfiles' update for v8 (currently in beta in v7.6) contains a layout change. This may do what you need?

CHiLL Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 HAP+ uses the current Windows authentication to log the user straight into HAP+. For example. Staff1 logs onto a computer. Loads up HAP+, and is automatically logged into it, as HAP+ has used the credentials from Windows. It isn't the end of the world if it's too much of a headache to do, just means the staff have to click an extra button (end of the world for them). I'm guessing they mean some form of NTLM auth where they don't have to enter a username and password to access HAP+ services. Yes, this pretty much. I'm only interested (at the moment) in the booking system, because it's simply the best one I've come across. We have an access from home solution (VMWare/Terminal Services), so the user is always authenticated in our system to access HAP.

You'd think, but it's to cover things like Exams, which aren't in the timetable, plus extra things such as meetings. Or in the example I provided, an art teacher wants to teach their class in an IT room, rather than in the usual Art room. Maybe they want to do that for 6 months while they're doing a specific module for example.
enjay Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I agree with @CHiLL - that feature would be useful for teachers booking classes in for Controlled Assessment (e.g. every Mon Period 3 for 6 weeks) or a teacher (typically, Art, Design or Music) wanting to use the computers for a particular project.
mattgrimley Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 First off, a quick thankyou to Nick. It amazes me how quickly you come to rely on something that you never previously had. The HAP+ suite has totally transformed our way of doing things here and i applaud its simplicity! I struggled a bit with my server config last month and it became clear just what an impact NOT having it has on my life! Your work is superb and the support has been fab. My Suggestion: I would quite like to be able to limit a couple of resources to specific people: i.e. Our Science department have two laptop trolleys that are for use only within the department. There is no point in anyone else seeing it (we have about 8 trolleys across the whole school) as they are not x-curricular resources. In terms of design, it would be a fairly straightforward extension of the permissions that HAP already supports: Default permission would be Inherit (from Help Desk permissions), with the option to add individual accounts or groups. This would allow me as an administrator to know when the laptops are in use too and where they are in use. Not a huge leap from what it does already, just allowing me to filter certain resources from lots of staff
