We have our Sims server on an SSD drive. Its silly quick to do updates now but still clients are taking ages to log on initially.

By that I mean it takes on average about 18 seconds to reach the main screen. We are using active directory integration also.

This is with an SSD drive in the Client and Gigabit networking.

So what's everyone else's login times? Am I missing a bottleneck somewhere?

I would guess it would have to be database access times. SQL requires a stupid amount of memory to run efficiently. We have 8 Gig in our sims server and we still get 10 secs to main screen

Maybe even change the on-read function of antivirus to on modify, especially on the local and remote sims folders.

SIMS load will do some checking to see if you need an update.

Try running pulsar directly and you'll be much quicker. I have both shortcuts on my desktop.

It takes around 4-5 secs for just the login box to appear and 1-3 with pulsar direct. Always quicker the second time around.

It seems to take ages to load first page, sometimes up to 13 secs post login, later on maybe 7.

Nobody has complained since the new server went in though, i suspect the login time is now increased as it's sorting out the homepage panels as well. If you have all staff logging in at 8am say to do registers then the usual staggered updates on panels is not relevant as all will load on first login. I have loads so the main page takes a while to populate some times.

Maybe try some testing at non-standard times. Or test direct on the server late at night.

If you are using Server 2008/2008 R2 load up process explorer and take a look at what processes are using what resources - you may find that SIMS is using a large amount of RAM, CPU cycles, Disk IO (even on a SSD) or any of the combinations.

It will also show up what other processes are running - as others have said Anti Virus is the biggest bottle neck and you might find it better to exclude anything to do with SIMS from its normal daily activities.

what version of sims are you guys running? Over night we upgraded to 7.140 which also requires framework 4 installing on all machines, and since that update our load times have halved to roughly 6 seconds.

6 seconds? Wow!

We are using 7.140 also now.

I just dont get why anything can take 20 seconds to load on the hardware that its on it shouldnt be that long.
