I've a few schools who bought a £3K white elephant voting system a few years ago but its occured to me that if all the pupils have a laptop/netbook/pad then they could just click on an icon and launch a response to a question without a separate device.

I'm thinking the basic concept of teacher pushing question onto server and pupils answering and it being recorded against them and bar graphs being shown wouldn't be TOO hard to implement - don't think its rocket science.

1. Is there a free system already in existance to do this?

2. Anyone up for helping designing/coding such a system if not? (it'll help keeo you out of the pubs over the winter :) )

I'll have to download the trial.

I'm wanting to come up with a more generic one that's web based so that it would work on almost anything but if the promethean one comes in at a good price and isn't too complex to use then it could be useful

You've got me curious about it too so i phoned up my promethean supplier to see if they sell this and how much it is, but the person on the phone hasn't really heard of it lol, so she's going to chase it up.

the teacher can blitz out a pole on the VLE

Blitz???

There speaks a man who doesn't use Moodle

But seriously, blitzing is what I'm after :)

Say teacher clicks on tray icon - sets question (or draws down from previous saved ones) - pupils click on their icon (or auto popup in Version 2 :) ) and answer -move on.

Got an email back prices are:

2-15 users £699 + vat

16-50 users £1499 + vat

51-100 users £2199 + vat

101-200 users £4799 + vat

201-300 users £6999 + vat

seems a bit steep would be nice to find an open source version.

Not sure how in depth, but I know Impero also has an exam module sort of thing. You put in the questions and choose the right answers, it goes out to the machines the kids are on, they answer it and it gets marked and sent back to the teacher.

you can even set duration of time, what sort of answer, how many answers etc. pretty much what the voting system thing does without the voting system :p

obviously you get much more with Impero, but if the school were looking to pay out a lot for just simple voting stuff, you could get some Impero licences instead and do more than just voting
