Andi Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Has anybody had any issues installing this on a 2003 service pack 1 DC? I'm looking at setting quotas on my students home directories and apparently it's much more configurable when this is installed. Is it a free add-on with a volume license? Can I download it? I have 2 DC, one of which is our exchange server, do they both need to be upgraded and is it likely to have any issues?
plexer Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 It's a seperate product to server 2003 so unless you are under a microsoft agreement you will have to pay for a new licence £50'ish. Ben
Andi Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Ah cool, well we have a schools agreement I think, with technet so I'm hopeful that we're covered.
Heebeejeebee Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Ah cool, well we have a schools agreement I think, with technet so I'm hopeful that we're covered. It only applies if your server products have been added to the agreement. It's an option you have to sign into. Other ways to get it are if you've purchased a 2003 license recently. See your vendor to get hold of the R2 serial number. We do not have our server licenses on our SA package but I had recently purchased 5 new licenses and our supplier (Ranesys) just gave us the code (when asked for) and I downloaded the package from the MS site. Ric_ Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 In answer to your question about difficulties, I have upgraded to R2 on both my DCs for the same reason as you. I had no difficulties... just follow the instructions on the disc. I happened to have bough a couple of new Server 2003 licenses which were bought after the release of R2 - anything before this reuires a new license but IMHO it is worth it for the extra goodies and you will probably need a spare regular license at some point.
localzuk Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I have been quite lucky in this, as we have replaced all our servers this year (intended only to replace half of them but hardware failures forced the other half), and all the new ones were installed with R2. The only box running the old edition is our ISA box, which I intend to decommission this coming year.
Andi Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 Cool, well apparently we are covered for it so I may just go for it. Thanks for your help guys!
