Ben-BSH Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Morning All Slight issue at my school, they have a start menu, which is redirected to a share, as per the norm. but when accessing the start menu, it can take up to 50 seconds to display the redirected portion of the menu. what i dont understand is the menu is only 270KB (1.42 Meg on disk) however there are 360 files, and 70 odd folders, so it might be taking the time due to processing? just wondered if anyone had any ideas. (this happens on gigabit nics, fast / slow PC's. not just some hardware) Thanks in advance! Ben.
K.C.Leblanc Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Are there any dead shortcuts in the startmenu? I've found these slow the startmenu right down. 1
Ben-BSH Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 Ah! just found some, will see if this fixes the issue! Thanks for speedy reply!
Ben-BSH Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 Sorted! many thanks, there was also a shortcut, with the icon file missing, which when removed / given a new icon file instantly sped up the start menu. lots of old / invalid shortcuts too, the menu is now like an F1 car! Many thanks! Ben
