Cache Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Back in July there was a news item on Support Net saying that there were Discover improvements in the Summer Release - I'm now going to ask a stupid question. Has there been a seperate SIMS Discover Summer Release that should be available through Solus 3 automatically or is it something I need to request or was it applied automatically in the SIMS Summer Release? Having just had to request the Exams Patch 16067 manually because Solus 3 won't show it, I'm just starting to wonder if we have a bigger issue here.....
matt40k Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 No, Discover Summer 2011 got cancelled. They decided to wait until Autumn as it includes major improvements. Can't find the post now - typical. SOLUS3 and SOLUS2 are separate systems, so Capita\LA have to authorise them on both systems. So stuff does get missed. 1
PhilNeal Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Thanks Matt - the biggest change in the autumn is optimisation for centrally hosted installations. We've reduced the bandwidth demand considerably. That won't have much of an impact, if any, for locally hosted schools. 1

Thanks Matt - Patch 16067 didn't get released because apparently we hadn't upgraded to the Summer Release (which we had and sent the Solus 3 Deployment History across to Support and had to do the patch manually) Thanks Matt - the biggest change in the autumn is optimisation for centrally hosted installations. In this case, did the Discover Backup Utility get released or is that waiting for the autumn release as well? Did go searching for the Hosted Technical Guide on Supportnet but I'm assuming because we are a Single Site School we won't have permission to view the Hosted Technical Guide as I can't find it anywhere.
PhilNeal Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Cache the export/import did get released. The hosted guide should be available as strictly speaking its for Citrix type deploment and some schools do use this. Please raise a case with us. 1
matt40k Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 The Discover Export, is in the SQL binn (\mssql10.sims2008\mssql\binn) - you have two programs, one call Discover.Backup.GUI.exe and Discover.Backup.Console.exe Example of usage in a batch file: Discover.Backup.Console.exe /operation=backup /database=discover /server=localhost\sims2008 /username=sa /password=Smac@366 /backupfilename=c:\backups\backup.dbk Now as you most like want to keep a few backups you’ll want to do something like: /backupfilename=c:\backups\%date:~6,4%%date:~3,2%%date:~0,2%_discover_backup.dbk
