Sophos Enterprise Console

Sophos Enterprise Console on a 2008 R2 server, linked to the domain, pushing out the client to Windows 7 PCs linked to the domain.

 

All seems OK but it won't actually complete the client install fully until an Administrator account logs in to the Windows 7 PC and sits there while it installs!

 

Surely it shouldn't matter if the machine is sat at the login screen or a standard user is logged in, as I'm providing the administrative credentials to install over the network?!

 

Windows Firewall is fully turned off on the servers / domain / workstations and the Remote Registry service is enabled too.

make sure Computer Browser and RPC is also running in the services.

That is a bit strange as you say, it installs as a service. Does the workstation report any errors in the console? Sophos's Knowledgebase may point you in the right direction.

It's nothing to do with UAC is it?

I had a similar problem with some of my workstations.

 

I tracked it down to old pointer records in DNS in the Forward Lookup Zones. I deleted the pointer record for one station as a test and Sophos deployed quite happily.

 

I then deleted most of the other pointer records [although I must have made a mistake because soon after our SGD stopped working. However Cutter Support were able to spot the problem and put it right (Thanks Kim)]

 

Might be worth having a look at your DNS?
