KMS Setup help needed

Maybe I'm having a monday morning mental block but i am struggling with KMS... it seems so easy to set up that maybe im over complicating things.

 

So, i have got my Windows Server 2008 R2 key.

 

On the server i have run slmgr.vbs /ipk {insertproductkeyhere}

Stopped and started the services by running Net Stop Sppsvc && net start sppsvc

Ran slmgr.vbs /ato which as i understand activates the key

Ran slmgr.vbs /sdns to add the server record into dns. I have checked it and it is there

I have ran telnet {FQDN}:1688 to the server and it connects fine.

 

I now have 67 machines waiting to be activated but i cannot for the life of me get the clients to activate against it.

 

On the clients i have run slmgr.vbs -skms {servername.domain.com}:1688 which sets the machine to the server without any problems.

 

what else do i need to run?

What does it say if you run a "slmgr /dlv"

 

When we setup our KMS on windows 2003 I just ran the following 2 steps

slmgr.vbs /ipk

(Wait for the message box to appear)

slmgr.vbs /ato

(Wait for the message box to appear)

Computers then activate both Windows 7 and Office 2010

 

In our DNS we had created the new SRV record pointing to our KMS server with the TCP port set to 1688 prior to adding the keys to the server

Thanks for the reply but i foudn out what it was..

 

We have imaged the machines and in our xml answer file we set SkipRearm to true and used a basic image for all the machines and built them up from there so they all pretty much had the same machine ID code.

 

To get round it, we rearmed 26 machines (both windows and office) and everything is working fine now.

I am in the same situation with office 2010 KMS, the clients seem happy, I have 67 requests sitting in the system but no activations other than those I forced using opss.vbs /act on the client.

We are running Xp sp3 on the clients and the KMS host is on our 2008 R2 DC.

I have taken a random check of the CMID(is this right?) and they all seem different but these workstation have been built with a syspreped image.

Any help would be appreciated as I am running out of time.

All i did for office was install the officekms installer on the server, inputted the KMS key, sat and waited and they activated. However, i did notice that if an installation wasnt activated, i closed office and reopened say word and it was activated.

I had the same problem, I had 27 machines in one room waiting to activate when I set it up initially for our school, the KMS was setup and working as far as I could tell, everything was fine, same with the office stuff, that was all setup, just wouldn't activate anything, only thing I realised then on the 2008 R2 Server you have to manually allow the Key Management Services service on the server firewall, it was denied(unticked) by default on our 2008 R2 server here, so when I edited the settings and ticked the box I was able to pretty much instantly activate all the machines at once.

 

VAMT 2.0 is worth having on there too if you want to manually activate a lot of machines at once.
