Slow DHCP IP Allocation

IP Range: 172.16.31.255

Subnet: 255.255.224.0

 

DHCP Relay: 172.16.0.1 (Domain Controller with DHCP)

 

Primary Comms Master Switch: 172.16.0.40

Primary Comms Sub Switch: 172.16.0.41

 

Secondary Comms Master Switch: 172.16.0.50

Secondary Comms Sub Switch: 172.16.0.51

 

Master and Sub Switches are Stacked, Primary and Secondary Masters linked by Fibre Optic.

 

For some reason it seems to take atleast 30 seconds for clients to be allocated with an IP address on the network. The switches are Cisco SGE-2000 Managed, any ideas as to possible causes of the slowness or settings which could be causing this?

Do you have spanning tree on and have you made sure to set the spanning tree mode to portfast.

We had a CCNA do these switches so I can't say I'm over familiar with the setup.

Image 5 set the STP to portfast. Was it a company that did the setup and did he do any documentation??

Ring him and demand documentation...any contractor or network engineer worth his salt would do documentation with their work.
