Windows search and redirected start menu

Hi,

 

On Windows 7 i have redirected the start menu. When you do a search on the start menu for a program it seems to ignore the redirected shortcuts.

 

Does anyone know how to fix this so it behaves the same it would be when not redirected please?

I had a similar issue.. but can't exactly be sure how I resolved it..

 

Try: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Do not search programs - Disabled

 

I also found that my test user kept the old setting - but making a new test user - things started to work. Almost as if the GPO was cached..

Sorry for the necro but @FN-GM did you sort this? I have just found we have this issue as well. We have redirected the Start Menu to a folder on the local hard disc but it won't pick up the shortcuts from the search bar. If I type "Word" I get nothing. If I type "winword" it finds the exe int eh programs folder. Obviously I want users to be able to type the name they know not the random exe name.

 

As we aren't using any folders to organise the start menu I was hoping to direct staff to use the search bar to find things quickly, but can't if it doesn't work. Tried Optimus' advice and nothing, even with a brand new user.

Yep know exactly what it is but didn’t fix it. If you restrict access to the C drive in GPO you can’t search. If you un restrict it you can search.

Brill ta. I'll give up then. May as well remove the search bar as well! You gotta love MS decisions sometimes.

Its weird, after all the users have read permissions to the folder.

 

Can you tell me how to remove it. I had a very quick look and couldn't see it.

Ha, given up on that to. Apparently the only way to remove it is to un-install Windows Search from the stations. You can do this using DISM (thread here) but I have since read that it could cause issues later on with updates and the like. So for now I'm just going to ignore it. Something to play with on a rainy day once everything is bedded down.
