Zoatibix Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Hello, I've been asked to provide an external consultant with read only access to our SharePoint site (preferably remotely, too). At the moment our SP is set up so that only staff can see it. Very few users have write permissions to the subsites. I thought of creating a locked down staff account for the consultant. This isn't a very elegant solution - is there a better one (bearing in mind that a. I have 24hours to get this in place and b. I'm still very much in the learning stage of SP.) Any help appreciated.
apearce Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 THis can depend on a lot of this but as you have very little notice you can do a quick fix by giving the users full view rights through central admin. Log into central administrator and navigate to your Web Applications. Select the school sharepoint web application and click on user policy. Then add the new AD users giving them read-only permission. This is not a good practice but will give the user permission to everything in the that sharepoint web application. Alex
Zoatibix Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 Hello, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we have some sensitive areas on our site that I'm assuming the management don't want accessed. If I'm correct what you suggest would give the user access to the sites, even where I have broken inheritence rights. (From my brief reading.) I've just had to go with a basic staff account. Again, thanks for your help - I didn't even know about those settings so that's something else to experiment with
