Random File Execution warning

I've just created a new user and I'm getting a the Windows Files security warning box when I try and open an exe file from the network on their machine.

 

What's making it wierd and frustrating is that if I log onto the same machine as my template user with the Same GP's and a member of the same security groups I DON'T get the warning message. I've deleted their local profile and let it re-create but the problem persists. Help!

 

Oh it's only on the network .exe, all the other programs work with no problems.

you want to run rsop.msc as that user on that workstation and look at the results. What OS?

I fixed this issue on my domain by adding my domain (domain.local) to the trusted sites settings on the computer using the group policy setting:

 

Computer Configuration / Policies / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Internet Explorer / Internet Control Panel / Security Page / Site to Zone Assignment List

We had this... as @ChrisMiles suggests, it's IE security zones. For some reason the setting in the top level GPO had stopped applying so I had to redo the setting in the student & staff specific GPO's - it was the exact same setting, applying to the exact same users, but it just didn't seem to apply from the main GPO anymore. If that seems to be what's happening for you, try adding it into another existing GPO (preferably with higher precedence) or create a new one for it.

 

Note that @ChrisMiles is pointing you at the setting in the computer config bit - we have it set in user config and that works for us too, so take your pick.
