Windows 7 Start Menu Redirection And Server 2008 R2

I have set up a test server running 2008 R2 in the hope of making progress with my Start Menu redirection problem. However when I look at Group Policy on the new sever it looks the same as my 2008 DC. I was expecting it to look more like Windows 7 when editing an object than what I am seeing now:

Do I need to add something to my sever to get it to do what I am expecting? If yes what is it?

I am not sure either. I read this morning that the way to solve my Windows 7 Start Menu redirection problem is to deploy a Server 2008 R2 server. While reading the blog I saw screenshots that differed from my own when using Group Policy editor. As I already have a 2008 server [non-R2] I had hoped that there was more functionality offered from R2. Now having setup the test server I don't see what extra is offered by R2.

 

Is there a server add-in that I should download?

If not how do I get my Windows 7 Start Menu redirection for my users to work? [How are you making it work? I can't make it work no matter what I try. ]

Its only the GUI its the exact same policy. To get it looking the same you need to change the theme to Windows Basic. But i wouldn't its pointless. That policy you have in the screenshots are both the same.

 

On a side note is the problem your having with redirected start menu that it doesn't show in Windows 7?

What functionallity mode is your domain/forest in?

if all your DCs are 2008 R2 then you should be able to raise them to R2 level..

 

Might not be the issue, but then again it might be..

Yes that it it exactly. The Start Menu is empty. Also I have specified that the 'Run' menu should not appear for these users. It does appear but they find no results from their entered search [i can live with that but I would prefer that it was gone]

If you Disable "Remove user's folders" from the Start Menu group policy settings that should resolve the problem with your redirected folder not showing. I had that issue thats the only thing that fixed it. You need to set it to disbaled and not just left not configured.
