A member of staff has brought a pen drive to me which has a strange problem. They had a load of folders in the top level which have now changed to a file type of 'File' - the folder is not accessible, and when clicked the 'Open With' window appears.

Is there a way of reverting these back to actual folders containing files.

Thanks

The problem is, generally anything to do with things not opening would be registry based. So it should still work on another computer, if for example they'd "killed" their default folder opening etc.

Check your HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell to see the default action for folders, in case it broke, but it shouldn't unless you're on their laptop/machine?

Is there any of the files you don't mind uploading just to have a look at, or are all private?

I really don't think that is a folder at all. If you look at the code it's opening

1 workbook, 6 worksheets (aka excel/spreadsheet file) including printer settings.

Really just looks like a "broke" spreadsheet.

Thing is it's so little data it seems it's more just a wrapper for the proper file that's missing. You might be able to recover it from the computer it was created on, but certainly doubt there's much you can do with that :p
