Rydra Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I'm looking to get a set of Apple TV gizmo's for the school to go with my Ipad 1's, and I've heard there's a problem with getting these things to work over a proxy. Anyone got any knowledge of this? Got wired and wireless networking, proxy is a non-authentication setup run by LEA/council, just an address and port number. Last thing I want to do is spend £100 per item on something that doesn't work because of stupid tech limitations.
Rydra Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 bump, I'm looking to order these today. Has noone here used one of these things in a proxy environment that can say if it can/cannot do proxies?
FN-GM Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 It runs iOS like the iPad and iPhone. They both support proxies so i cant see why this cant. On my iPhone i have to use a .pac file to allow exceptions.
Norphy Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 If you can wait til I get home this evening, I can look at mine and see if there's a place to set a proxy.
Rydra Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Bump again, I really could do with an answer on this. I can't seem to confirm or deny proxy workings on them yet.
GrumbleDook Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 There is not a way of doing it at the moment. https://discussions.apple.com/message/4325656#4325656 is one discussion about it, but you can also set the gateway as a transparent proxy which does the work for you (eg Smoothwall, a managed wireless controller, etc). 1
theeggmaster Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 You can do it now with the Apple Configurator. Set up a profile with the proxy details in and apply it to the device. I've just got mine working in about 10 minutes. 1
Norphy Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Not that recent but possibly made since this thread was originally created.
