Its official - Windows 7 (Professional) has achieved the SimpleSi seal of approval!

Of course - I've had to disable UAC but once I've done that and modified a few enviroment variables, my WPKG profiles and software all seem to install just fine :)

It even installs and runs the modified VB6 Stop-motion capture program that I use :)

I just don't understand how all you stick in the muds are not moving with the times! :)

Si

PS I bought Win7 pro upgrades for a set of 9 netbooks so I could use XP mode to run my old software, but I'm going to try and set one up using Win7 starter and see if I can get away with saving the money.

Because maybe it's about money, rather than vision. Because maybe, some schools would rather spend that tough to find grand or two on some much needed new hardware than licences.

Does that mean that Windows 98 has come off the list?

I suspect Simon has found an OS he's happy to stick with for the next decade or so. He'll be complaining about the unavailablity of W7 drivers for holographic dispays in 2020 though ;)

Yep, happy with it here too, but haven't rolled it out yet. Debate about what 'value-added' extra it gives us for the licence fees, we don't have a schools agreement or Vol licensing agreement, whatever.
