Tricky_Dicky Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I've got 2 Dell R710 servers with a PS6010 San all connected up and working fine using Hyper-V with an iSCSI switch. However I am having some really strange issues getting them to connect out to the internet. They can both browse network shares on the rest of the network and can be seen from the rest of the network, but I can not get them to connect to the Internet. They are both joined to the domain and therefor have the correct Proxy details. I have updated the network drivers for both network cards and I'm completely stuck for ideas. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it? Thanks in advance. Rich

ChrisMiles Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I had this exact same problem with some hp proliant servers when I was configuring our hyper-v cluster. Ping the gateway and see if it works, if you have teamed network adapters on the lan side, try disabling all but 1 of the team members and see if it will access the gateway and internet again right away. I fixed it in the end with updated firmware and drivers.

I don't have any teamed LANs setup as yet.

Is that done with teaming, multi-path io or with a single connection at the moment? Is the iscsi switch isolated from the client network and do the iscsi adapters have addresses on a different subnet?

From what I recall it is on the same network but uses VLAN to separate the traffic. Each server has 2 connections to the SAN.
ChrisMiles Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 It may be that the server is trying to access the internet through the iSCSI vlan instead of the correct one, however, if that was the case I'm not sure youd be able to talk to the other servers, hmm. Does DNS resolution work? ie nslookup http://www.google.com Also, you said you cannot ping the gateway, is the proxy server internal or external and can you ping that?

I have disabled IPV6 and that seemed to kick it in to life, as in I could get out on to the internet but then seemingly at random it will stop connecting to webpages. Is there anyway of forcing the machine to use a specific nic or are there some other proxy setting I need to set that I have over looked?

ChrisMiles Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 So disabling ip6 causes it work sporadically, hmm, try running a continuous ping on the gateway while you browse the net (ping /t)and see if the ping drops out as well as the websites.

ChrisMiles Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 lol its giving you the run around. I think the internet access check contacts something at microsoft, does microsoft.com work? Is it possible to test it on an internet connection without a proxy in the way?
