Printing whilst in RDP

Ok, i've setup VPN's for admin girls at our second site. My issue is printing.

 

The printer shows up in the remote session and when i press print the job is in the local list but it wont print until i've disconnected from the session and by that time its all failed. Is this normal? I've never actually printed whilst remoting?

Although I'll be the first to admit I'm a newbie at VPN in general, I was reading up about them few weeks back and I remember reading that while a VPN is open all traffic is directed to it. Even "local" traffic as such, unless you have split-tunneling enabled?

Am i right in thinking split-tunnelling isnt as secure either?

Basically as I understand it yes it is less secure. As you're effectively giving a "publicish" point of access. Not sure if there's a way around it, to allow printing in a VPN (as mentioned newbie here )

Ah, we're in the same boat! lol....

 

I tried telling them to maybe pause the print job in the local list, so they can release it when not VPN-ing.....their eyes glazed over...

Kaz, Is there anyway you could potentionally have a Site to Site VPN oppose to Client to Site, and then put the IP's on the same network as the printer.. they will then be able to print. because everything will be on the same network... (even if you have to connect them locally to the machine and share them it should work).

 

I don't know if that is possible though in your circumstances depending on where you are based.
