Orange say to forward the text to 7726 which is free. I forwarded the text they sent me about exciting new Orange deals!

Certainly not doing that. Since I never gave these guys my number, it would only be a matter of time before I started getting texts on the new number. Changing numbers because of unsolicited texts is like moving house because you don't like getting pizza menus through the door.

Point taken. When I started reporting the unsolicited texts to Vodafone (at their request), I assumed that they would log them and take some action in the background to find the source then deal with it. I was surprised when they said that they would change the number for me immediately.

The lead generator firms sell on details of those who respond to their unsolicited texts. Even if they text “stop” in the belief that this will end the texts, their number can be sold to “lead generators” for around £5. They are then passed on to the claim managers or “claim farmers”, who contact the phone to see if they can produce a claim.

 

As we suspected, best to ignore them.

Well, I haven't had any for nearly two weeks now since sending the text on to Vodafone, so maybe they've blocked them...
