Print Manager Plus 6

We have PMP6 installed at school which we bought about 6 months ago. We will not be purchasing any other system instead as the budget does not run to it. We have had several problems which I hope some of you know how to fix

 

Firstly the Main Program on the server no longer sees any printers even though this is the server with them on.

 

Secondly the software on the client doesn't tell pupils when they are running out of credit.

To re-search for the printers, simply restart the service. You should also use e-update to check for a newer version (6.0.0.119 is out now).

 

The default IIRC is to tell the darlings about their low balance by using the Windows Messenger service - a highly insecure service that is now turned off by default. You can use a GPO to turn it back on or simply install the EUIT which will sit in the system tray next to the clock.

 

Of course it is academic how much credit remains if the printers are not being seen... since no credit will be deducted!

 

I've never had a problem but you probably don't want to hear that.

Every time I restart the service it still comes up with no printers however it seems to be recording the pages printed by all the pupils and staff?

 

I installed EUIT but it couldn't connect to the DB properly?

@wesleyw: Have you created a DSN to connect to the DB?

I have but it still said login details were wrong on the euit bubble.

Hi Wes,

 

Just a thought (cause it tripped me up). The EUIT won't register credit remaining until a document has been sent to print from the logged account. It is during this 1st print job that the server is notified. Chances are you have it setup right, this is just the way its coded. Abit odd if you ask me...

 

I asked Sean Lower @ Software Shelf about an .msi installer for the EUIT and it's something they're working on. However it's a moot point really as it can just be run from a network share/shortcut in the startup folder...

EDIT: If it was me I'd reinstall the server with a new DB. Mind you we don't have a massive amount of printers... ;-)
