Firstly, Unison are not striking!!!

 

Secondly, and for those people who are anti-union, I hope you have good legal insurance of your own and will be equally as ready to turn down any benefits won by union activity! Remember Union members are not forced to strike even if their union has called for one. It is illegal for any Union to take action against anyone not striking. It's your decision, albeit a moral one, and if your workmates are accepting of your reasons for not supporting them there isn't a problem.

Nope. Just a member who believes that if I don't like what my Union is doing on my behalf I can do something about it by getting involved beyond just paying my subs.

Don't be surprised though if when you do need their help in the future you suddenly find it very difficult to get any support from them.

 

You mean like the lack of support they are offering to the whole of the unison members at the school we are working which is closing?

 

At a meeting arranged by school unison members, the local unison rep more or less said everyone for themselves! get out while you can!

 

HR meetings - unison rep was a waste of time, just sat there, said nothing, wrote nothing....

 

Unison members at the town hall being made redundant were offered enhanced voluntary redundancy......

Unison members at the school - no such offers!

 

After school unison members complained we managed to get the same offer! NOT the union (or if they had a hand in it, they kept it very very quiet!)

 

In my 23 years of working in a school and being a unison member all that time I have never needed their help until now and they have been about as useful as a chocolate fire-guard.
