Right click to print multiple word docs

In Windows XP you could right click on a load of selected files and print them all in one go. How can this be done in Windows 7?

 

Does it matter what version of Office is installed?

Surely someone knows a way, or what about 3rd party tools/scripts to do the same thing?

Which file types specifically. It's not there for xml type documents without a registry hack. I'm investigating that now.

If it's just regular files then that's doable now, but it's restricted to 15 files max. Have you tried with just a couple of files..?

To enable the context menus for > 15 files I used this registry hack. It just adds a key to the Explorer area. If you open it in notepad you can see what it does before you double click it to add it to your registry.

Load Word, go to File, Open (yes, really...), navigate to the folder of files you want to print, then hit the Tools button on the bottom left of the Open dialog box and select print. Prints to the default printer. Works in Word 2010, anyway. Many thanks to @Admiral208:

I know, i've seen that method and even recommended it here and on SupportNet however this was before using Office 2010. Since then i've found i can't do this on Word 2010. Neither can any of my users. All that is on the Tools menu is Map Network Drive. I can do it on my XP box with both 2003 and 2007.

 

I wonder if it's some network policy or permissions thing. I will google shortly

 

I have however worked out the registry entries that are required to enable right click print context menu for Office 2007 on XP and Office 2010 on Win7. I can't test anywhere else, but if you'd like to try, it would be useful

 

It's along the lines of the mod suggested by @Cache in the thread you linked to, just after Admiral208's post, but goes straight to registry. For the Office 2010, there is one value i omitted (in the comments) as i didn't know what it did, but it seems to work without.

 

At least this way, you can do it from explorer and not need to open word first. For bulk printing in Win7 it would need to be coupled with the earlier attachment.

Thinking about it, all our machines except one are on Windows XP - and the Windows 7 machine had the same issue as you describe with Office 2010. I'm starting to spot a pattern here...

I know this is a necro thread at this point, but it still popped up on the first page of google when I was searching for something else. I've found a free utility that we use in our company for printing multiple documents at once of various file types (.doc, .pdf, etc..) Its pretty lightweight and has an easy to use interface.

 

Print Conductor was the name of the utility and can be found here:

Just figured I would add this in case anyone else comes across and is still looking for a solution; I know it's not quite the right click solution they were asking about, but it does work great for our users.

Just to let people know this works:

 

1. Select less than 15 files in Windows Explorer

2. Click print button at top of window

 

Now you see it

 

 

 

 

Now you don't

 

What foxed me was that if you try to select more than 15 the PRINT button just disappears. There is no error message or anything. You just have to select you files to print in batches of 15 or less.

You could highlight the files and then drag them over to the print queue. This will print more than 15 in one go.

Didn't the registry hack do the job.

I know use a vbscript shared elsewhere do don't have it on my machine, be interested to see if the registry hack stops the button from hiding itself.

Doing them in batches of 15 is fine for me. Was posting for the benefit of others who find this thread via google. I hadn't worked this out at the time of starting this thread. Thanks @DaveP and @vikpaw for the suggestions however.

If you have Creative Suite installed, as we do (and a lot of schools do), you can use Acrobat to merge files into a singe PDF to print from. Comes in handy at UCAS references time - select all the folders, right click > Merge to PDF, save out as a single file and print that. Saves going into 150 folders of 4 or 5 documents each!
