Apply ActiveX control settings in IE through GPO

Can i do this through a GPO? As standard ActiveX is disabled in our GPO's on our domain is thee nayway i cna configure htis in a 2003 GPO.........?

 

Class Server - Teacher requires that you customize settings in Internet Explorer to allow teachers to download and run signed ActiveX controls from their computers. If you do not apply the correct settings in Internet Explorer, an error will occur during setup, and teachers will not be able to use all Class Server features.

 

To enable ActiveX controls to be downloaded and run:

 

1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.

2. Click the Security tab.

3. Select the Trusted sites zone.

4. Click Sites, and then type the school's URL in Add this site to the zone.

5. Click Add, and then click Close.

6. Under Security level for this zone, click Custom Level.

7. In the Security Settings dialog box, click Prompt under Download signed ActiveX controls.

8. Under Run ActiveX Controls and Plug-ins, click Prompt.

9. Click OK to save your changes. Click Yes when prompted.

10. Click OK.

11. On the View menu, click Refresh. If prompted about ActiveX controls, click Yes.

1. In Group Policy, click User Configuration, click Internet Explorer Maintenance, and then click Security.

2. Double-click Security Zones and Content Ratings, click Import the Current Security Zones Settings, and then click Modify Settings.

3. Select the content zone in which you want to manage ActiveX controls, and then click Custom Level.

(you can also set up your class server to be a trusted site while you're at it I think)

Ive had trouble with this before and never really fixed it. It has something to do with the signed behavior of the active X plug ins as well. As if they arent signed then they wont work.

This is driving me nuts at the moment. Any idea how to apply the settings in IE at Tools >> Internet Options >> Advanced using a group policy?

registry hack? If you use regmon to track where the settings live you could export the key in a .reg file and import it at user logon?

I'd be interested to know if my suggested tweak actually made a change to your IE settings or not - does the site become a member of the trusted zone etc. after you apply the GPO. Obviously it didn't fix the problem :/ , but it'd be good to know at what point it was failing.

I eventually sorted the problem, but not the way i wanted to.

 

I created a .msi package to deploy Class Server cliebt to all staff laptops.

This has raised its ugly head again, I have recently doena new image on some Dells laptops and forgot to put CLass Server onthe image, when i try and install it through IE i keep gettting the bloody Active X erros, no matter what i do it wont install. I have tweaked the Local GPo and the DOmain GPO, even logged on as Admin with no GPOs still wont wrok. I know it is us becasue i asked another nearby school's NM to test it on one of his PC's and it worked firn for him so I know its an issue with our school.
