pritchardavid Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Hi there Could someone tell me how I could move our Moodle install to a subdomain? Moodle is on the same server as our school website (in a sub directory) We are running IIS. So what setup do I need to do in - Moodle - IIS - Internal DNS Servers - External DNS Server (123Reg) Many Thanks!
irsprint84 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 external sub domain? easy as pie go into local DNS and change A record for sub domain, the go into iis and chnage the binding to new sub domain then in external DNS change the A record
penfold_99 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 You would also need to update your moodle config.php with your new URL for the site. This could also break any hardcoded links on the site to files and resources, this could be managed with filters if it's a big problem.
pritchardavid Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Ok this is what I have done but have problems Copied our moodle installed folder to C:\wwwvle Edited our moodle config file, settings are below <?php /// Moodle Configuration File unset($CFG); $CFG->dbtype = 'mysql'; $CFG->dbhost = 'localhost'; $CFG->dbname = 'moodle'; $CFG->dbuser = 'root'; $CFG->dbpass = 'fakepassword'; $CFG->dbpersist = false; $CFG->prefix = 'mdl_'; $CFG->wwwroot = 'http://vle.theockendonacademy.com'; $CFG->dirroot = 'C:\wwwvle'; $CFG->dataroot = 'C:\inetpub\vledata'; $CFG->admin = 'admin'; $CFG->directorypermissions = 00777; // try 02777 on a server in Safe Mode require_once("$CFG->dirroot/lib/setup.php"); // MAKE SURE WHEN YOU EDIT THIS FILE THAT THERE ARE NO SPACES, BLANK LINES, // RETURNS, OR ANYTHING ELSE AFTER THE TWO CHARACTERS ON THE NEXT LINE. Made a new website in IIS with the following settings - Site Name = VLE - Physical Path = C:\wwwvle - Host Name = vle.theockendonacademy.com Made a record in DNS - vle.theockendonacademy.com with IP of server Made a record in 123Reg - vle with external IP address of server Ping vle.theockendonacademy.com - This pings correctlly How ever when I go to the web address it redirects to theockendonacademy.com/wordpress, this is our website address I do have at the momment a wordpress muiltsite setup, but at the momment as im still creating the new site on this, I have set the root of the default website to have html file as the default file with a index.php that redirects to theockendonacademy.com/wordpress, as the new website (Wordpress Mutilsite) is in the root of the server. Also for the Wordpress Mulitisite I set * A records to both the internal and 123reg DNS servers Cheers
