Just down the road from me so I'm going to go stand on the picket lines if they've got one in support during my lunch break:

From what I can gather, much opposition to the expansion of academies nationwide is down to the teachers losing their centrally negotiated pay and conditions (which seems to be the common theme) with a whole raft of other reasons tagged on as well. Can any of our members working in academies let us know if these fears are well founded or just union scaremongering?

Out of interest is Coundon Court also being turned into an Academy? left there about 11 years ago and have since moved south, was suprised to see that the Tile Hill Centre of City College Coventry had been knocked down

 

The first bit of the article made me chuckle... Tile Hill are staging a 48hr strike while Woodlands are doing a 2 day strike.

 

Could someone please inform the BBC that 48hrs = 2 days?

When the school where I'm governor converted at the end of last year, we made absolutely sure that staff pay and conditions stayed in place unchanged and the staff knew exactly what was going on. Converting is dificult enough without upsetting the staff...

 

I suspect that the school and its GB are guilty of poor communication rather than an out-and-out attempt to change the terms of the staff.
