SYSVOL Location

Hi Everyone

 

Im currently building a 2008R2 DC to migrate my 2003R2 DC and i wanted to if anyone stores the sysvol and database on a seperate partion? My 2003 Dc has two drives in a raid 1 with 2 partions and ive setup my New 2008R2 DC with 2 drives (Raid1) but only one partion.

 

Is it ok to have the sysvol, database etc on the C: drive and not on the D: drive?

I create a 10gb partition and name it S: this is for the sysvol only

Thats what i do. If the C drive should get full it shouldnt stop whats going on in AD.

 

It is ok to use the C drive though.

I know it used to be better for performance etc but ive got 2 10k 140gb (118gb Free) SAS disks in the new DC so i dont know if its ok just to place them in the C Drive. The DC will just be a DC with DHCP and DNS, nothing else.

shouldn't really matter but as FN-GM says if for any reason the C: drive does become full or the server starts being used for other things then a seperate partition can avoid problems
