Photos on the website

Ok, so we have photos of the kids on our school website. I try to do the usual like not naming them, make sure they are group photos etc. I've also turned off the ability to download the photos (i know there are ways around this print screen etc).

 

Apparently parents have started enquiring about having copies of photos...and im pretty sure this is going to open a whole can of worms.

 

Whats your opinion?

We have done this by burning a set of DVDs with the photos on, but our class sizes are so much smaller and getting the permission of the parents to do so is so much easier. The DVDs only contained photos of one class (= one year group at our school)

We only have articles on our website that also appear in our newsletter - making sure that children are not named, etc, so parents can always get a hard copy. Edited May 24, 2011 by witch

Yeah, i ws guessing we'll have to get permission from all the parents of that class first....

We have all photo's burnt to disk, but we do not have children named on the photos or within the names of the photos. If they want a set, they pay for the disk which we charge at £10, even if they only have their child in 1 photo. Its the same price to everyone, we have had a few complaints but generally everyone accepts it as that.

staff sign a disclaimer, and if they havent signed it, they cant take photos, parents also have a disclaimer and they havent signed it, their childrens photos are removed. forgot to add that

Is there really a need to stop the downloading of images directly from the site? presumably the parents have given permission for photos of their children to be used for publicity purposes and should understand that once they're on the website they're viewable & downloadable by anyone with an internet connection. As long as you continue to be careful about whats published I wouldn't have thought there would be an issue.
