How easy is it to upgrade Moodle, and can anyone give me how to do it in easy steps?

I am very worried about crashing what we have! I will obviously back it up first but even so. All advice gratefully received :)

Go to Site Administration -> Notifications.

Should say somewhere in there, also it would be wise to get a screenshot of the following so I can tell you what will/wont work post upgrade as Moodle 2.0 upgrade is essentially a large upgrade and some stuff might not work.

Site Administration -> Modules -> Blocks -> Manage Blocks

Site Administration -> Modules -> Activities -> Manage Activities

The move from 1.9 to 2.0x is the same as like going from CC3 to CC4 ... Or server 2003 to 2008. It is nit just a simple upgrade.

Ideally, I would recommend you create a test build of the same version you are running now and upgrade that, getting staff who build the courses and user to test it first.

It all depends on which modules and blocks you use, how much there is on it already and how bespoke some if the templates / tools are.

I'm nowhere even close to you but if you get me a temporary admin account I'll take a look for you.

Although to be honest, the migration isn't easy and at this stage it's better to stick with 1.9 until next year.

Why until next year?

As it gives the developers of third party modules time to catch up. Also your theme will not work come the upgrade so will have to be re-done to suit.

Right - we now have a moodle upgraded 'mock' site to play with. No, I didnt do it - I got someone else to do it for me!

Question - the new version has 'private files'- how easy would it be to redirect this to the user's 'My Documents' as that would be very useful.
