I love watching launches. I've been to the US once and we were in Florida. There was a launch scheduled when we were then but was cancelled due to Hurricane Floyd. Gutted.

The process to launch/dock/land is exactly what the pilots go through. My mate had a massive document which explained step by step how to go though the process. He spent a few hours going through it. If I remember right, his angle was too great during launch and the shuttle flipped and exploded.

Typical!! I have had it on in the background watching the pre launch & I got see ignition, the first second of launch & then our net connection went crazy & I missed the rest!!!!!

I saw HST and Discovery on the pad way back when. We went when I was 7, sadly enough I can't remember much. Just seeing Discovery on the pad and standing next the Saturn V when it was outside. The F1 engines on the S-IC are unbelieveable.

 

We keep planning to go back and actually watch a launch, but it's just too risky. My mate went back in the late 90s and missed it by a day after it was scrubbed for 48 hours.

 

Great launch though. Watch out for the videos they release later today, for STS-133 they released the SRB cameras from launch, sep, entry and splash down!
