Remote Desktop Gateway Web Interface?

Hi,

 

I am looking at using Remote Desktop Gateway. The idea is to provide a web interface for users to access via the school website and for staff users to connect to farm 1 and students to connect to farm 2.

 

Will this let me do that? My understanding id that the Gateway doesnt have a web interface.

 

Any input would be appreciated.

You're thinking of Terminal Services web app (or whatever its called now.. Terminal Services Web Access (TS Web Access)

 

Remote desktop gateway is like an RDP proxy - remote desktop users at home can use it to bounce through to get to machines on your network, all through a HTTPS wrapper.

 

We use it here, and have found it pretty reliable.

You can combine the 2, Use Web access to present the webpage with custom rdp files and use gateway to secure the conenctions and allow access to inside of the router address's.

Configure the TS Web Access server to allow access from the Internet

To allow users to access the TS Web Access server from the Internet, the recommended configuration is to place both the TS Gateway server and the TS Web Access server in the perimeter network, with the terminal servers that host RemoteApp programs behind the internal firewall.

 

Alternatively, you can deploy TS Web Access on the internal network, and then make the Web site available through Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server. For more information about Web publishing through ISA Server 2006, visit the "Publishing Concepts in ISA Server 2006" Web site (Publishing Concepts in ISA Server 2006).

 

If you deploy TS Web Access in the perimeter network, you must configure your firewall to allow Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) traffic from the TS Web Access server to the terminal server. You must ensure that TCP port 135 is open for WMI-related DCOM traffic. To control the other ports that are used for WMI traffic, you can configure a fixed port. For information about how to do this, see "Setting Up a Fixed Port for WMI" in MSDN (Setting Up a Fixed Port for WMI (Windows)).

 

So if you used the TS gateway with it, then yes - externally it'll be 443 only.

I am trying to set this up but have some trouble.

 

This is my setup

 

RDS-F01-S01 - Remote Desktop Server (Terminal Server)

FP-RDS-LC - Demote Desktop Licencing & Broker Server

FP-RD-WEB - Web Access Server & Remote Gateway.

 

I followed the guide you sent. I have made and application and made it available for webaccess. In the configuration on Web Access i have pointed the server to the Broker Server (FP-RDS-LIC). I installed the Gateway and Web Access components on FP-RD-WEB and used default settings.

 

The applications are not showing on the web interface.

 

At the moment i have just go the Web Access server in the internal network.

 

Does anyone have any thoughts please?

Point it at the RDS server, I had problems getting my broker to work with webapp, its fine for logons but it gave me too much agro with webapp so i just pointed it to the one server
