Ruckus ZoneDirector 1000 DHCP Settings

I'm just configuring our Ruckus controller for the conf and have hit a bit of a confusing setting, when I say confusing I mean not very clear, or I may possibly need more coffee

To enable the ZoneDirector to act as a DHCP server you must first enter a static IP address. Once this address in entrered you can then set the DHCP settings. However it appears that you can only set these addresses to be in the range of the static address, unlike a home router that will have it's own internal IP range and 'route' out via the external address. Is there a way around this without employing a router or will I just have to get a block of IP's allocated by the conf providers network services for our use?

Just taken a look at my ZD3000 and I think you'll need a router. The ZD is mearly a AP controller with the extra function of a DHCP server. You'll need something to do the NAT.

In the Ruckus system customer traffic does not normally pass the Zone Director. The Zone Director manages the Access Points, and provides centralized authentication services for the WiFi clients. It is not a router.

Are you just going to use the ZD and not the whole SRIAB? Surely the SRIAB can do our own DHCP from the install on it and use the Smoothwall to route the traffic to the upstream IP that you have got from the provider like we do at BETT?

There is a 'noise' issue with the SRIAB

Could you use dhcp of the Smoothwall utm? Then the xen server can be left turned off?

That would also work Or you could fix the "noise" issue, lid off small 2 wire connections pulled out job done
