Afternoon all,

Has anyone ever written a Website User Guide to guide parents through how to use the school website?

We've just been asked to produce such a document and I'm not really sure where to begin as our website is fairly obvious, in that Information is available (believe it or not) under the information drop down for example :-(

Thanks in advance

Done one for a VLE - not a website. However I would just show the obvious; that information is available under the information dropdown. As some people might not have come in to contact with dropdowns before.

I think the key thing (as with all kinds of training) is to find out where the training needs are - so what is it that people need to get from any kind of guide and what problems are they having now that can be resolved through a guide.

However...personaly I think a poster of the websites key features/benifits would be a bit more benifical than a guide, (and this is all in my own opinion) who wants to read a 10 page block of black and white text when they can have a A4/A5 handout with pretty pictures :)

If parents need a guide on how to use your school website then something is wrong, either with the website or the parents.

I think the idea of a poster for key features benefits is the route I'm going to take. Like you say, nobody wants to plough through a 10 page instruction manual when you can have lots of pretty pictures :-)
