We've got a Server 2003 box set up with PCounter, DACCS and Apache Tomcat to look after some networked Sharp MFDs.

Everything was working properly until our IT contractor installed some new DLink DGS-3100-24P switches and configured a new vlan for us.

Ever since the moment it became live the DACCS component on the MFDs can no longer communicate with the server. We can ping the MFDs from the server, ping the server from the MFDs, and access the MFDs via the web interface. The MFDs just sit there with a message on their screens saying "unable to contact the server see your administrator".

The contractor is as baffled as we are as they reckon any security features in the switches that may cause this have been turned off.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Many thanks.

Yes, our configuration is set to use port 84 instead of 8080 for some reason. If we change it to 8080 Apache Tomcat can't synchronise with the DACCS Management software.

DLINK haven't got back to us but does anyone have any idea of the switch / vlan settings that would impact on port 84?

I can't think of anything that would impact on 84 without being specifically configured. If the VLAN's have changed has any of the IP addressing of the servers? When we VLAN'd our network i had to reconfigure the accounting server addresses within the MFD's web interface to point at the new IP for the server.

Update. This wasn't a VLAN issue after all and was a software issue solved by an upgrade.

However, I was hoping that you could help us with another technical issue that we have that our reprographics/print solution contractor cannot at present find a solution to?

We have PCounter v2.30a installed on our Windows Server 2003 SE SP2 Domain Controller.

Alongside this are PCounter Embedded For Sharp OSA v3.1.0.2 and Apache Tomcat v6.0.10.

We have four Sharp MX-6200N machines on site.

Previously, we were using a version of the DACCS Management software on the server but our reprographics contractor removed this as the maintenance licence had expired, and installed the PCounter Embedded For Sharp OSA v3.1.0.2 software.

Since then, we have an issue whereby anyone using their pin number on any of the MFDs is able to use any of the client codes – not just the ones that have been assigned to them in PCounter. As you can imagine, staff have had a field day putting their copying charges on other departments budgets!

Has anyone experienced this and know of a solution? Many thanks.

No Problem! In the Dacc's web page, goto settings - theres an option the under client code/department (can't remember exact wording) which needs to be ticked for use associated code only.

I would update to Pcounter 2.60 if possible, especially with dacc's 3.xxx

Thank you David_PCN - one tick in the appropriate box and now everything works as it should. Shame our Repro Company couldn't work this one out so fast.......
