POE injectors

Any recommendations for stand-alone POE injectors? Been looking at Zyxel but wonder if anyone has anything else to throw in the pot? Reliability is very important.

been using some Dlink injectors for a few years and they havent broken yet

I've got some buffalo ones that have been running fine and also some 3com ones.

What are you going to use them for and over what distances?

 

The Zyxel ones are the same generic brand that are available from several outlets but the prices vary enormously.

 

For phones and low power Access points they will be fine but avoid using the cheaper units on some higher rated AP's as they just dont have the juice required.

15.4w is the normal 802.af output but some devices like the Cisco Dual Bands want 17w and refuse to work with the cheaper brands.

 

The other thing to watch out for is Gigabit compatability, as you will know Gigabit uses all 8 wires in your CAT5 cable and the cheaper POE units are 10/100 only and will give your gigabit switch a headache and you a nightmare unless you are expecting it!

 

802.3af and 802.3at are the different standards to look out for,

Telephones, over varying distances, but nothing significant.
